I get messages all the time saying something like, "I have a good friend who is Muslim and .... "
My first question is, Does she wear a headscarf, or, if a male, Does he wear Islamic clothing or have an Islamic beard?
I might ask additional questions like, is he/she a "practicing" Muslim (goes to mosques, prays 5 times a day)?
If you've read my article, "Here's what I learned from living in a Muslim country," then you know that I was treated very differently by "practicing" Muslims than by Muslims "in name only."
Muslims who have a Muslim father will call themselves Muslims though they've never read the Quran, don't know the prayers, don't go to mosque, etc.
They don't "practice" the religion, and often, don't know much about it or its teachings.
The prayers said five times a day are extremely anti-Jew and anti-Christian and brainwashes Muslims to hate non-Muslims.

If they go to mosque and say the five prayers each day, they are NOT your friend.
jihad is taught in thee majority of mosques

Lying is condoned in Islam and even promoted if they have an agenda.
Sahih Bukhari (84:64-65) - lying is permitted in order to deceive an "enemy." The Quran defines the 'enemy' as "disbelievers" (4:101).
Hadith makes it clear that Muslims are allowed to lie to unbelievers in order to defeat them or protect themselves. There are several forms:
Taqiyya - Saying something that isn't true as it relates to Muslim identity (i.e whether one is a Muslim or what that means). This is a Shiite term: the Sunni counterpart is Muda'rat.
Kitman - Lying by omission. An example would be when Muslim apologists quote only a fragment of verse 5:32 (that if anyone kills "it shall be as if he had killed all mankind") while neglecting to mention that the rest of the verse (and the next) mandate murder in undefined cases of "corruption" and "mischief."
Tawriya - Intentionally creating a false impression by saying something that is technically true, when knowing that the listener will interpret it in a different way. This practice has a broader application than taqiyya.
Muruna - 'Blending in' by setting aside some practices of Islam or Sharia in order to advance others.
Muhammad used deception when he signed a 10-year treaty with the Meccans which allowed him access to their city while he secretly prepared his own forces for a takeover. The unsuspecting residents were easily conquered when he broke the treaty. People in the city who had trusted him at his word were executed.
Another example of lying is when Muhammad used deception to trick his personal enemies into letting down their guard by pretending to seek peace.
The Quran teaches hatred towards non-Muslims and teaches violence and jihad against non-Muslims.
Furthermore, the Quran explicitly says not to be friends with non-Muslims.
Here are just a few examples in the Quran that say not to befriend non-Muslims.
These verses are in order as found in the Quran:
Quran 3:28
Let not the Believers (Muslims) take for friends, nor for helpers, unbelievers (non-Muslims).
Quran 3:118
O you who believe! do not take for intimate friends from among others than your own people, they do not fall short of inflicting loss upon you; they love what distresses you; vehement hatred has already appeared from out of their mouths, and what their breasts conceal is greater still...
Quran 4:144
O ye who believe! Do not take for friends unbelievers …
Quran 4:89
... take not friends from those (unbelievers/non-Muslims) until they flee in the way of Allah (convert).
But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and take no friends or helpers from them.
Quran 4:101
… the unbelievers are your open enemies …
Quran 5:51
O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for friends.
Quran 5:60-63
O ye who believe! (Muslims). Take not for friends those who take your religion for a mockery (i.e. who don’t take it seriously or think Islam is not the one and only true religion).
Quran 5:83
Thou see many of them turning in friendship to the unbelievers (non-Muslims).
Evil indeed are the works which their soul has sent forward before them,
With the result that Allah’s wrath is on them and in torment will they abide.
Quran 5:84
If only they had believed in Allah, and in the Prophet (Mohammad)
And in what hath been revealed to him
Never would they have taken them for friends and protectors
But most of them are rebellious wrong doers.
Quran 7:165-167
We visited the wrong doers with a grievous punishment because they were given to transgression
When in their insolence they transgressed all prohibitions
We said to them: Be ye apes, despised and rejected ...
Behold! The Lord did declare that He would be against them on the Day of Judgment
They will be afflicted with grievous penalty.
Allah is quick in retribution.
Quran 9:23
O ye who believe! Choose not your fathers nor your brethren for friends if they take pleasure in disbelief rather than faith. Who so of you taketh them for friends, such are wrong-doers.
(Even family members are not to be taken as friends if they do not accept Islam. This is the mildest interpretation of this verse from the 9th Sura, which also advocates "slaying the unbeliever wherever ye find them").
Quran 58:14-17
Avoid those who turn to you in friendship (Christians or Jews who try to befriend you)
To do such will have the wrath of Allah.
This is just a partial list that can be found throughout the Quran. Muslim are taught not to befriend non-Muslims. Some Muslims will purposefully deceive Westerners into believing they are your friend. Be careful.
