Marine Gen. Frank McKenzie, in charge of U.S. Central Command, said: “They continue to aspire to regain control of physical terrain [and] they have the potential to do so in a relatively short period of time.”(1)
The Islamic State receives large amounts of income from human trafficking.
Affiliates share profits from illicit tobacco markets in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Donors in Mid-Eastern countries raise funds.
Income from human trafficking creates off-shoot business such as transport-specialized units, money-laundering, various smuggling businesses, enslavement of women, and recruitment of children to be trained by terrorist organization at bases in Europe and Africa.
An annual report given by Sen. Rand Paul revealed that the Pentagon lost track of $1 billion in military hardware in 2020. Military hardware was lost track of in Syria and in Afghanistan.(2) There is no doubt whose hands some of that military hardware fell into.
Interpol reports that terrorist organizations used the pandemic to reinforce their power and influence and to expand their external financial resources.(3)
The top jihadist group who have become most active during the pandemic is Boko Haram. Boko Haram had originally declared its allegiance to al-Qaeda, but in 2014 when al-Qaeda in Iraq joined forces with al-Qaeda in Syria to form the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Boko Haram pleadged their allegiance to ISIS.
Boko Haram has increased their attack in Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad. The Islamic State affiliate has infiltrated top levels of government in Cameroon and is now in control of entire towns across the border.(5) The concern is that the militants are seeking to raise the flag of the caliphate in Cameroon as well as in Nigeria. Nigerian officials have long accused Boko Haram of infiltrating government and the military.
Boko Haram has massacred entire villages as part of their effort to establish an Islamic caliphate. While the group expands its attacks in Central Africa, the Islamic State organization has taken advantage of lockdowns and is rebuilding in the Mid-East. Lt. Col. Stein Grongstad said: “The Islamic State group has ... [been] strengthening, both financially and militarily.” He said just as COVID-19 was weakening nations, ISIS was regaining strength.(4)
More than a third of the world is Muslim. Results from studies and polls resulted in the following: More than 60 million Muslims view the Islamic State favorably; 81% of Muslims support the Islamic State; when asked why, the answer was because the Islamic State follows the teachings of the Quran and Muhammad.(6)
The majority polled said they approved further conquests by the Islamic State. When asked why, the answer was because Islamic Doctrine says Muslims must conquer and enforce Islam on all people. More than 700 million Muslims said yes, they wanted Islamic Law to be the law of the land.(6)
The Islamic State organization has an active worldwide propaganda system, vast recruitment success, and is well known for being able to activate “moderate” Muslims in Europe to commit attacks, as well as persuading thousands of people to join terrorist groups.
The Islamic State has a presence among migrant populations. This makes it hard to detect human trafficking operations and widespread cell networks. These cells have been growing inside America starting in 2015 when enormous numbers began entering the U.S. from the Mexican border.
30,000+ illegals from countries listed as having high terrorist concerns crossed into the U.S. from Mexico in 2015.(6)
Nearly 151,000 border crossers and illegal aliens were apprehended at the U.S. - Mexican border from October 2019 to March 2020 from at least 72 countries.(8)
An enormous number of illegals crossing into the U.S. via Mexico have been smuggled into the U.S. via South and Central American smuggling networks specializing in individuals from the Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Middle East and Africa.(6)
One border patrol agent said: “... there is a clear pipeline from the Middle East through Mexico.”(6)
Many thousands of these illegals entering the U.S. from Mexico were from: Pakistan, Egypt, Yemen, North Africa, and various Mid-East countries.(6)
Approximately 100,000 Islamists, from at least 80 different countries, traveled to Syria and Iraq to join ISIS when the group first announced its creation in 2014. The numbers may be as high as 360,000. It has been estimated that 10% of these fighters were women. The average rate of return to Western countries, after training and fighting, was between 20-30%.(7)
The Islamic State has specialized training camps for women and children. Starting in 2015, many of these children were funneled into Western countries where they can at some point surface and create terror attacks. When the “Caliphate Cubs” training camps first started up in 2014, the Islamic State’s social media stated: "We will have future generations trained and ready to fight in the West”.(7)
